image Several of you have expressed interest in learning more about great freeware applications and, since I work with computers, thought you might like to hear about some of the most popular freeware applications.

Over the next month or two I’ll be writing about them while Sally continues to keep you informed on Cove matters.

CCleaner is one of the best computer cleaning and optimization freeware tools on the Internet.  It will remove temporary, unused files and clutter from your computer’s hard drive which will free up Windows to run faster.  It works with Internet Explorer, Firefox ,Google Chrome, Opera and Safari browsers.

But that’s not all, it includes a registry cleaner that removes left over registry entries from software uninstalls and includes settings that will run CCleaner automatically after turning on your computer.

I’ve used this application to clean up lots of computers and it’s a great, stable, application which I recommend highly.

Great Dale…. I use Norton Security Suite 2009 and it allows me to download CC without any problems at all. Not sure what’s going on with the other anti-virus programs. Glad it’s working for you now though.

  2. Dale Morsette says:

Just downloaded. Had some problems, but worked them out – mostly turning off various virus protections, etc. I’ve been using Spybot and Error Fix (registry cleaner). Considering how many items ccleaner found and corrected it seems very impressive.

PS: I DID restart all my virus protections, etc.

Hi Frank :) Thanks for your comment and I’m not sure why Kaperski decided to become the drama king on this one but as they say in computerland it’s a false positive reading – CCleaner is clean.

You can also download it from download.com and here’s the link:

PS: Thanks for the instructions Dick and hope your eye surgery went well.

Frank: Is there a way to disable your virus software while you download the FreeWare? I often diasable Norton A/V when I do such things. Seems to work for me. But I also have some anti-spyware that gives me a heads-up any time an application wants to execute any code. If yours is anything like Norton, you can right-click on the icon down at the right side of the taskbar and disable its functions temporarily

My Kaspersky Anti-virus will not allow this file to be downloaded.
