image On Friday morning a resident residing on Ridgewood reported seeing a Florida panther in her back yard.  She later verified the sighting on an animal website which matched what she had seen.

This is one of several sightings, over the past few years, and although we have no photos of the actual panther residents are advised to exercise caution when working at night or early morning.

    A hearty amen, Sally!

Thanks, Ben, I had forgotten about the tap-on fees. When we first installed the facility, the charge was $60 per month. That was at least 6 or 7 years ago, so if all we’re paying now is $750, that seems like a good deal.
At the board meeting the manager said they were going out for bids on the exercise building. I questioned that since it had not been approved by the board and he corrected the statement by saying they were getting estimates. I heard they were contemplating building it on the shuffleboard courts. Maybe this is an underused amenity, but some people enjoy it and it’s already there and paid for. Also, another building in that vicinity would take away from the overall open environment and beauty of the area. For the number of people who would use the facility, the three-plus-acres behind Ridgewood Drive might be the place for it in the future. Planning for the future is encouraged. I just hope this doesn’t get on a fast track until the economy improves a lot. I realize there is probably money in Capital Improvement, but I don’t think this type of facility is a high priority for most people. In addition to the construction costs, there would be on-going expenses for electricity, maintenance of machines, pool table, etc. It seems to me the present placement in the RV clubhouse is OK, at least for now.

Thank you for the very informative responses.

Sewer tap fees have been the major deterrent to a permanent restroom at our Tennis Courts. The Tap fee + cost of construction turn it into a very expensive proposition. In addition, $54/month sewer fees would be payable, too.

We’re presently renting the stall(which includes cleanout) for about $750/year.

I’m not a Board member, but I did attend the PDM Committee meeting and the Board meeting at which the exercise/billiard room and tennis court rest room were discussed. Tne context of the discussions was that the exercise/billiard room was a potential planning item for the future – not for immediate implementation. After all, that’s part of the mission of the PDM Committee – planning for the future. As for the rest room at the tennis court, the committee was entertaining ideas for doing away with the porta-potty for which the Cove currently pays a monthly fee – a long-term money saving and capital improvement idea was to install a small rest room and do away with that monthly expense.

Both ideas are in the discussion, planning and cost estimating stage.

PS: I’m not sure about the expenditures and maybe one of the Board members can answer Ron’s question?

Ron, Ben and Joe, our next door neighbor, found a really huge paw print in our back yard and made a plaster cast of it. They showed it to the game warden at the Gulf State park who said that it was a cougar / Florida panther print. The person, in this incident, is highly respected in the Cove community.

They will eat your dogs. I have a neighbor who lost two dogs to one and saw one of them being carried away. I also have foolish neighbors who insist they are lying. My dog Bear has frequently been very uneasy lately.

I believe I have only missed one board meeting recently but the major proposed expenditures in the update caught me off guard… pool halls, restrooms, etc.

I thought we were minimizing financial expenses to compensate for reduced income. Who is behind all of this?
