Each morning my friend, Debbie, goes to the pier to take sunrise photos.

On Tuesday, August 18, 2009, she got the surprise of her life.

  1. Sandra says:

He was on Watkins’ beach (south side – photos) but Ben saw him yesterday hidden in the grass on the Cove side of the Bayou.

His name is George Kinsey [unless ya'll can come up with something better] :)

  2. Sally McKinney says:

Methinks they’d better get another sign posted. Was he on the north or south side of the pier?

  3. Sandra says:

LOL, funny Dale. Ben said the gator was about 50′ from where the swing set was.

  4. Dale Morsette says:

I always wanted to get a picture of the sign warning about alligators – with the children’s play area in the foreground. Always wondered how they had built that trap.

  5. ben says:

saw the gator again on Sunday morning-partially hidden in the grass on the Cove side of the Bayou. Did I have my camera? Of course not!

  6. W Hodge says:

The markings suggest it might be a Cayman. I don’t know if they live around here but I’ve seen them in central FL.

  7. Sally McKinney says:

Pretty early in our residency here, they caught a 9-foot gator in that area. Yes, there was a sign. Probably Ivan took it to Florida or Georgia or somewhere.

  8. Sandra says:

Spanish Cove used to have a sign on the path to the pier that said “Warning – Alligators Reside Here”. I thought for a while that it was referring to Spanish Cove Residents (Ben and I included) you know how crotchety some of us can get at times but now I know it was referring to the real thing :)

That is great!!!! I have been looking high and low for one in that area (just enjoying the outdoors, along with the pier and beach area). Mrs. W does has a different opinion…..about the gator that is.
